Hi everyone, joined your site for some much needed help. I am 36 I have been shooting since I was a boy with my father on a large farm outside of milngavie on his licence because we always went together. We had not been shooting in a long time due to us both working offshore and generally not being home at the same time and now my father isn't around anymore unfortunately. I went up to see the farmer to ask if I could use him on my application for my own firearms cert as my place to shoot and he informed me that he has given the rights to someone else. I now don't have anywhere to shoot unfortunately. I don't know anyone else in the same social circles anymore that shoot so I am a little stuck for help.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any shooting clubs in your area that you could join? That would be a way to get your FAC, and then after that you would need to go knocking on doors to try to get shooting permissions. I can't think of any easier answer to your problem.

If you still do a lot of offshore work, then the licensing dept might look upon that unfavorably due to possible security reasons.

There's a club in bearsden, that's where I grew up but I think it's quite hard to join? I think it's quite a good club and they have limited numbers maybe? I was a member of Callander gun club when I was a teenager but I see it isn't on the map on this site so don't know if it is still going. I'll try doing a little digging, but I thought I would need to be asked to join by existing members (which I don't know now). We did shoot at a place in Cumbernauld (farm) I am going to go and see him today or tomorrow.

Offshore shouldn't matter, my dads was offshore all his working life and he held his shotgun and firearms throughout. I have plenty of security at the house, alarm, cameras etc too

Thanks, I tried to phone Callander today but the number isn't connected now, so I have sent them an email. I didn't know about Clyde valley, thank you, I will try them too.

Thanks guys. I went along to Clyde Valley but I ended up joining Glasgow district pistol club because they seemed to do alot more practical shotgun. Got my licence with no problem and have some land to shoot in cumbernauld 2 mins from the house. A bit small but it does the job. Been fun taking the kids out and showing them how to shoot. Unfortunately my eldest son is beating me in the competitions at the club! We are now in the process of applying for his licence now too. The clubs been great for different disciplines but now I'm looking for more vermin shooting / land.
