Gents,

Our ESS is about 3 weeks off giving birth, this is a first for us and we've been reading and talking trying to ensure we are as ready as can be.

Any of you who've experainced 'deliveries' care to chip in with any good points or things to have on hand, your experiances etc.

Input at this point eould be apprecupiated.

Just been through the same. I was amazed how my bitches mothering skills kicked in. It was her first litter. I'd say just make sure pups don't get squashed, other than that leave it to her. If she rejects any there will be good reason.

You might want to have your whelping box ready about a week before the bitch is due, I use brush poles for the crush rails, just drill holes and slide them in then when the pups are bigger you just pull them out. I also like to make the entry just big enough for the bitch to walk straight in,one of my spaniels whelped a week early so watch out for signs of her getting restless and starting to nest. Most bitches are natural mothers so just keep calm and don't transmit any anxiety, making sure she cleans the pups and the afterbirth. All my bitches were great mothers and loved all the attention they got but watch out for any change in her as she is only being protective, it's a great experience but if your dog is like mine midnight is a great time to have pups! So have fun and start saving up the newspapers.

When making the puppy box make it as tall as you think possible...

Then make it six inches higher

Then higher still...

They'll still climb out.

Terry I'd bite your arm off for one of those dogs.. I adore Springers and after three and a half years, I still miss my last one Swoop. Damn shame we're not closer or I'd have one for sure..

Tommo,

I can gift wrap or organise delivery ;)

Seriously, having had the mum for a few years would not be without one, we're keeping one of the litter, just want the rest to go to good homes,

Here's another one of the boys:

Nice puppies. I only wish that I wasn't severely allergic to dog dander.
