Yet again.

Yet again.

Postby GULA-GULA22 » Sat Oct 24, 2015 6:30 pm

Once again my old(er) cocker proved her worth.

I was beating today, and, as usual, when the drive finished, I asked one of the pickers-up if there were any birds still to pick.

There was a hen pheasant (runner).

I sent my dog into the area where the bird had been marked down, and left her to it, the cover being so thick, that there was no chance of seeing the dog.

Within five minutes, she was back with the runner.

Bare in mind, this shoot charges £40/bird. Finding one lost bird. pays for my day, and then some.

Without doubt, the best dog that I have owned.

It's always a good feeling when your dog is the star of the show  My old lab bitch used to be the dog of last resort sent in to find them when all the others had failed, and invariably she would trot out after a few minutes with the missing bird

Yes, Shaun, Exactly.

Same shoot last week, my two picked five birds, in a cover crop, after one drive. Now, that's £200 for the shoot. I'm not saying that those birds would not have been picked, but it makes my day worthwhile.

That said, my young dog did peg a cock on one drive (still £40  ), but how could I not forgive the wee bugger.

The wee beastie hunts like a demon. :)
