Really hope the little chap recovers. It's just gutting to lose ones dog, especially for something that could have been prevented.

He is still a bit touch and go. The tail has now been effectively fully removed and he is only left with stump an inch or so long.
There is still an infection and we are unsure if it will clear and heal properly.
We live in hope!

Being a fairly new member I had not seen this thread before, however I agree with your remarks regarding BASC, I had a similar experience with them when my son had firearms issues.

As for the docking issue ,it is the most stupid bit of thoughtless legislation ever to be imposed on working dogs. Your dogs case is one of many, how many times especially when rough shooting have we seen a Springer or Cocker absolutely covered in blood because of an undocked tail wound, not a pretty sight!!

To think that this legislation was bought about by so called animal welfare organisations is unbelievable. It's about time the decision makers listened to people with the know how to give proper advice rather than to the bunny huggers most of whom think that what they see on Emmerdale is what really happens.

I hope your dog recovers well. I am sure that there are a lot of people rooting for him.

Maybe the last chance to change this stupid law in scotland :-

Dear All,

After learning of a recent report published about risk factors and tail injuries

I decided to contact my local MSP Mike Rumbles who took the subject up with
Richard Lochead the Cabinet Minister for Rural Affairs.

I received a letter back today, it would appear that Mr Lochead will be
reviewing all comments about the report and deciding whether or not they
need to review the current policy of tail docking in Scotland and whether the
current stance is justified.

The deadline for comments is the 3rd of September, the shooting and welfare
organisations have also been sent the reports and asked to comment, and general
comments are welcomed, along with supporting evidence of tail injury. Happy to
forward a copy of the letter to those interested .

Now is the time to fight again for an exemption for our working dogs

The reports can be viewed at :-

http://www.cdb.org/News/Veterinary%20Re ... 202010.pdf

The email address for comments is :-

animal.health@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

Please forward this on as you see appropriate, the more interest and comments we

can generate before the 3rd of Sept the more chance we have of perhaps making a
difference and changing this destructive law.
