Florida Bass!

Postby 247sniper » Thu Oct 11, 2012 1:13 pm

Hi guys,

Here is a couple of the many bass me and my son Jake caught early hours yesterday morning on lake ToHo in Florida.
Awesome morning packed with plenty of action.

Them bass are bloody hard fighters, my arm is stiff this morning !

Err I didn't match Jakes biggest fish  , he wopped me at that. He cought one quite a bit larger then that but when getting ready for a photo it decided it wasn't in the photographic mood and kicked off and kicked out of Jakes hands and back into the water. (it's happedned to us all)

We cought a couple of Gar's too, there dangerous ugly buggers!

Are those the ones that look prehistoric with a huge mouthfull of sharp teeth   . I'd want a strong pair of long pliers to take the hook out of that finger trap :thdn:

Yes that's the one fella, the guide said its best to cut the line when you get the fish to the boat, he said not a good Idear bringing them on the boat as they thrash around like f*#k , snap and bite anything.

Good fighters too!

Nice fish! Glad to see the youngster enjoying himself!
Are they good eating? or is it just catch & release?
Looks like great fun whichever!
Cheers,
Dave

My first cast in florida I hooked into a turtle the water colour is like a river in spate the first I saw of it was about 5 feet out and almost on the surface.

I cut the line as they have snapping turtles over there so I was taking no chances.

Nice catches by your son, tell him well done.
How big were the Gar's ? I used to keep a couple in a tank, got them at about 8 inches and watched them grow to 20 and 28 inches respectively.
Not that much of a problem to handle, teeth are sharp but little biting power, or to look at it another way, blood but no missing bits
I sold them on to shop when a house move meant no more 10 foot fish tanks
At the same time I also had a Snakehead, an Arowana along with an Amazon Red Tailed cat, the Snakehead was always the problem.
It would destroy any in tanks fittings and was quite capable of removing fingers at will, at about 30 inches I had had enough and donated it to
mate with a large fish house, it became his refuse disposal unit, any dead, dying or unwanted stock disappeared down the hatch within minutes of being put in it's tank.

Neil. :)
