With the rivers all flooded round my way, I fished the Basingstoke Canal on Friday. Even that was really pushing through and heavily coloured with flood water, but managed to get some nice skimmer bream and roach up to a pound. Method was pole and bread punch. A 4mm pellet on a 20 hook.

Who said you can only catch small fish on the bread punch.

havent been to my local rivers because of the flooding went to watch a mate fish a contest the other week. on a pool with silver fish and perch. he won the match with 45 lb of perch.
bloody place is full of them. biggest ones where around 1lb or just over. so a great bag to win the match

I went back to the Basingstoke canal a week later and had a nice net of skimmer bream and roach. Only fished for around two and a half hours and had over 7lb, all on the bread punch again.

Now near the end of the coarse fishing season, I fished my local river and had over 8lb of fish, mostly roach last week.

Nice lot of fish, and they all look in good condition as well. I get so little time now to get out, but as long as I catch one then I'm happy

I used to be a dedicated match fisherman, but now just go out for a few hours, with bread and maybe a few worms and fish where I think the fish are. All my gear is pretty old, but it does the job.
