The difference between bruised and cracked ribs is simple!

If they are my ribs they are cracked, possibly with complications, doctor looked concerned, he was amazed at my being able to bear the pain etcetc

If they are your ribs, they are bruised!

Simples

Lee, the main difference between bruised and cracked ribs is the degree of schadenfreude the rest of us endure.
For the avoidance of doubt, there is no such thing as "American English". There is the English language and there are mistakes.
