Computer knackered

Well knackered is my technical term.

My Grand Daughter has an ASUS lap top. When she turns it on it just gives a message in white on a black screen = BOOTMGR missing.

So, where's it gone and how can I persuade it to come back?

Keef,
Have you tried booting in safe mode then selecting to start Windows normally? Sometimes works for me if one of mine has a hiccup :)

Best asking the expert really, I imagine he'll be here shortly ;)

Easy, I think

If its vista

Find yourself receiving "BOOTMGR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" message? Don't stress! Its easier to fix than you think. Here's how:

SOLUTION 1

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Set your computer to boot from DVD or CD in your BIOS.

Vista will ask you for language and keyboard layout information, after which you will be asked if you want to re-install Vista or repair your existing installation.
Select Repair. After which Vista's System Recovery Tool will start

Hi Neil,

It seems W7 is now having its share of issues. What's your opinion of it?

Eyup Bob
Initially, the issues with W7 are mainly down to the 64bit side of things. Codecs, media player and the lack of support for bluray etc. I've road tested W7 on a number of different spec machines, 32 bit were fine no glitches whatsoever. 64 bit generally was a bit lumpy at first and was a bit of a pig to get some drivers. :turd:
Having said that, I'm running W7 Ultimate 64bit on an old Acer 5315 and it never skips a beat.

edit
The automatic updates are pretty much essential to get W7 into a stable state.

All in all, once sorted, its ace.

Thanks for that Neil. I haven't actually seen it in the wild yet - this far out it'll be 2020 before it trickles into general use - I still have 2 customers on 98, and they simply won't move.

You have PM.
