My wife has just had a serious health scare - she almost quit smoking.

She went onto the e-cigs on January 1st but she decided to stick to one cigarette per day. "Shut up,leave me alone, I'll do it my way".

The use of the asthma inhalers dropped right off immediately. I bought several liquids to help her find one she preferred. :)

I explained that still having a ciggy would do no good at all and that it would soon go to two cigs a day. The best thing to do was to stop altogether and stop the neighbourhood bitches coming to smoke in our kitchen or stop sitting in the garden with them socialising (smoking while they did so. "Shut up, leave me alone, I'll do it my way". :(

Two turned to three, three per day turned to four. At the end of June the e-cig went into the cupboard, just because she enjoyed that single cigarette per day.

The smokers cough is back just as good as ever "Shut up,leave me alone, it's not a smokers cough". The asthma inhalers are getting the same old hammer. She is coughing well as I type.

She doesn't have a job (apart from being a critic and protect the TV and sofa from burglars) so you know who ends up paying for the cigarettes and the inhalers..... :kill:

Ecig with cyanide flavour should do the trick! ;)

I quit cold turkey when I was twenty five. It took years for the urge to have a cigarette to completely disappear. It was the best thing that I ever did. Playing with chemicals for 40 years plus isn't the best thing for lungs and as you get older things such as lungs don't get any better. Having said that my mother in law smoked until she was 82 until severe dementia set in and she had to be placed in a nursing home. She was forced to give up smoking and that was all she wanted until the day she died. As a ex smoker I find cigarette smoke is tough on my lungs. So were nitric acid fumes and NOx emissions. I'm sensitize to both and it does take much of either to set me off in a coughing jag. One of my buddies was accidently gassed with chlorine and developed chemical pneumonia. He recovered but a few parts per million of such contaminants will set him off worst than me. Smoking is a tough habit and if it were harmless I still be smoking.
The faster I go, the older I get.

I went cold turkey in 1991 after smoking for about 17 years. I did a sponsored quit so there was a lot of money riding on success.

You can only quit if you really want to. Good luck.

Ask her to dig a hole in the garden (or do it yourself) make sure its 6ftx4ftx4ft

She's digging her own grave, if she complains while digging remember to say "Shut up, leave me alone, you're doing it your way"

Go for it Leadpig.
I managed to quit from a 40-a-day habit in 1998. Not easy, but one of the best things I've ever done.

Don't forget there are two addictions. One to nicotine and that's relatively easy to break using a substitute - I used nicotine chewing gum.
The other addition is the 'habit' of smoking . . . something to do with your hands . . . the ritual . . . And that for me was much harder to break. If the e-cigs were available in 1998, I'd have used them for sure.

Good luck. You won't regret it.
