The original is far a far better film.

I watched a John Wayne movie last night called Rio Lobo. It's a typical John Wayne movie. It co-stars Robert Mitchum. Interestly the sheriff's deputy is carrying a very rare Model 1855 Colt 10 gauge revolving shotgun. It looks to be an original. It's the only one that I've ever seen anywhere. Of course, in the movie they create special effects to make it function as though it were a rifle. It's a percusion gun but somehow it comes off as a cartridge gun in the movie. The gun features a swing down loading arm just like the type you see on Colt percussion pistols. He never loads it in the film and seem to get eight shots out of the six shot cylinder. Even more strange is the Colt 1917 revolver that Robert Mitchum uses. It's been modified to look like a Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army when in fact it is a WW1 issued revolver. In one of the scenes Robert Mitchum fails to load the revolver as though it were the single action gun dropping the bullets on the ground. John Wayne loads it for him off camera presumably using half moon clips with the cylinder swung open.
The faster I go, the older I get.

Guns in films are a whole different subject. Mostly a bloody irritating one.
If you don't have to give up your car because other people commit crimes in their cars, why should I have to give up my firearms because other people commit crimes with their firearms?

By contrast, I have on the idiot box right now the film 'Jurassic world.'. A long film about incredibly stupid people doing incredibly stupid things.

"Stay in the car." She doesn't stay in the car. He carries a Marlin 45/70 to deal with bloody great dinosaurs. Not a terrible choice. But. It has a telescopic sight FFS!

There's more. So much more.

Which pales into insignificance against the fact it's made of S/S and plastic :barf:

I saw the film "Dunkirk" yesterday. I really like the film. The action scenes seemed as realistic as it gets. I found it kept my full attention. Nice job and a good film.

I thought my father was evacuated from Dunkirk but apparently not, he was still in France two weeks later https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Ariel

That was such a different time it's hard to imagine that it all happened. It had to be a bad time for all with an uncertain future.

Really enjoyed this. My dad was a medic with the UN Irish in the Congo at the time.

The real tragedy is how the Republic treated the soldiers afterwards though.

I saw the film and found it nearly unbelievable as to how they left those soldiers on their own without adequate support.
