The only downside to this is he didn't stab both of them to death, reading the story with any luck he will be released without charge as he was protecting himself, there should be a gofundme page set up for him to buy him a new knife set, I wish him all the best and hope this mess is sorted quickly so he can get on with his life

I like that the local councillor said there had been a definite improvement in tackling berglaries, I would say this was definitely an improvement

Look on the bright side. If he gets life, he'll probably only do a couple of years.

Whilst sitting in the hospital waiting to be discharged today I picked up that epitome of accuracy The Sun.

There was mention that one witness said that the od boy had chased said burglar down the road. If he did this and killed him this would not be self defence as the assailant had stopped his attack and was fleeing.

Perhaps some reports might differ and get it correct (or wrong).

Well, there could be a defence to such a situation, in theory. He chased him down the road in order to arrest him, which on information received would be legal. In view of the age difference he picked up the screwdriver with which to defend himself in the course of the arrest, which he, sadly, had to use to defend himself when the burglar resisted the lawful arrest. Worth a go at least.

But,

Given that most reports say the burglar was stabbed with his own screwdriver it stretches probability that the 78 year old managed to remove it from the burglar, let alone chase anyone anywhere. For me, if the burglar reached the pavement outside the house he'll be home free.
