Self Defense

Postby flintlok » Sat Jun 22, 2019 4:18 pm

I just finished reading what guns fellows keep at the ready for self defense. Lots of Glock talk, revolvers, and caliber discussions. I didn't weigh in on the convesation as I have this full size circa 1850 toggled, double barbed point whaling harpoon. It's all rigged with the correct rope for the fabled Nantucket sleigh ride. Looking down the receiving end of a rigged eight foot harpoon is an impressive thing. I don't know how good of a self defense weapon the harpoon will make but I do know it's going to hurt and the poor soul will not likely make it out door as I tug on the rigging. A coworker told me that such a incident will likely make national news. I doubt that I'll ever need such a device but it's a cool thing to have kicking around. I really don't give self defense much thought. One of my cop buddies told me once that there's no one crazy enough to bother with me.
The faster I go, the older I get.

That's where the US and us lot differ Dave.
Our government would rather the intruder killed us than the other way round.

Running around behind a bloke with an 8 foot harpoon in his back, whilst holding on to a rope connected to said harpoon, might just attract the attention of the local sheriff. Well, it would over here, anyway .... I don't know about the 'States. :hmm:

What's your warning call: "Stop or I will shoot, or, there she blows?

Nah, something more akin to "A dead whale or a stove boat!". That should get the felon's attention. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I live about 10 miles or so from New Bedford, Massachusetts. it's more of a local home boy thing.
