I know lots of blokes who would like one but they are not very common. There are some Italian copies out there but often expensive. Some specialists who deal with Cowboy Action Shooting often have them. Try Google searching, I just did a quick search and found this: http://aandagunsmiths.co.uk/for-sale/.
You will need to do more research and possibly drive a bit to get what you want.

I was lucky enough to find a Model 1897 12 gauge riot gun all original that was manufactured by Winchester in 1920, bought by the UK, and issued to the Royal Irish Constabulary. I imported the gun from to UK to the US and it now resides in my collection. It only took me about 15 years to find the 1897 that I wanted. The sporting guns are available and I routinely see them at gun shows in the US. That's not the case with the as issued riot guns. Keep looking and you'll find one eventually. Winchester made a million of them.
The faster I go, the older I get.

Never seen Italian copies of them, any idea who mkaes them??

The link goes to a website that lists an 1887 model - the lever action...OP is after an 1897 - a pump action

I know an RFD in Essex that has one of the Chinese Norinco Win 1897 copies left.

I like mine.
For the avoidance of doubt, there is no such thing as "American English". There is the English language and there are mistakes.

I may be mistaken about them being Italian copies but I am sure I have seen modern replicas.

The Italians did "remanufacture" the Chinese guns more or less but they still remain Chinese guns except the came from China by way of Italy. I guess you just can trust a sneaky Chinese/Italian import. ;) ;) ;)

Chiappa's 1887 lever is easily confused with the 1897, I had a look for one a while back and the Norinco 97 is the only repro one of note I could find. As mentioned they are available new, supposed to be quite good if you want the trench gun look. They can be slam pumped like the original!

Thanks Curley. I have some of the older Winchester loading data, so Im covered there. It does look like it might be a good 20 ga powder. Its very dense.
