tooth pick

Postby leadpig » Fri Oct 17, 2014 7:00 pm

started to make a knife 18 months ago and forgot about it
at 15.5" x 2" x 0.25 of 01 tool steel with a 9.5" blade it is more of a short sword
it's purpose is brush clearing and zombie apocalypse, note the glass breaker zombie smasher at the back ;)

rough shaping, wish i took more pics :(

blade.jpg

after shaping it needed hardening and tempering, this is hard to do on such a big blade so i sent it off to mark hill aka hillbill http://www.markhillknives.com/ , mark also tidied it up  . a truely nice guy and will have something made by him directly ;)

pre heat treatment

blade2.JPG

after heat treatment descaled and cleaned

blade3.JPG

starting to look really good, already got handle scales picked out

the sheath is going to be the hard bit :worried:

There is something really visceral about a nicely made knife - or is it just me? :hmm:

Fair enough, never thought of that  Got a factory full of industrial sewing machines here (It's a little factory) and some very soft dark green leather (not really stiff enough for a sheath but better than a kick in the teeth) if it's of any interest / use ?

What do you think I am? Expensive?

Haven't made a sheath in a while but if you send me a sheet of paper with the outline of the knife, I can have a go.
