Reloading bench

Postby TJC » Fri Aug 10, 2012 10:43 am

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can recommend me a reloading bench for a property in the UK ?

I know it is possible to build them but I don't have the time (and probably the ability). I'm looking for something that can be up to 6ft wide, 3-4ft deep (max). I think it needs to have a wood/mdf top rather than metal (to fix the press to), be pretty heavy/sturdy and hopefully have a few draws or units/bins for storage. Having a locked cabinet to store powders in would be a bonus). It need not have any lighting or electical options nor be the most fancy thing since sliced bread.

Has anyone bought or seen something like this lately or got any decent ideas on where I should look ?

Cheers

Have look at work benches, plenty of on-line sellers.

I think this could be better for your needs. I have one, though not for reloading as such, but it gets used for a variety of shooting related jobs...

Lots of timber ones out there too: in my opinion they're sturdier (and certainly heavier!) than the metal ones.
You could try these modular ones if money is no object:

Or a basic one from Axminster, and add your own storage:

I've seen similar ones in Wicks/the DIY sheds for less money.

Hope this helps

I made one out of a kitchen cabinet which was on sale for a £10 + a gash slab of kitchen worktop.

Had to sacrifice the use of one drawer as the press ram would foul it and stop it being used :)
If it has a trigger I'm gonna enjoy it!

I have one of the above and it's a good bit of kit for many jobs, BUT, for a reloading bench it's way too flimsy. Have a look at this video for inspiration on self build, complete with handy advert for the Lee Bench plate.

If you don't have to give up your car because other people commit crimes in their cars, why should I have to give up my firearms because other people commit crimes with their firearms?

Has anyone tried buying plans from Summerwood sheds? Are any bench recommendations included? Thanks in advance!

I bought one from machine mart

When putting it together you will need a hand with the top its very heavy, git my press bolted to it

I like it but if you stick a press on it you won't get the drawer open

Hi Trifid

One day I would like to have a dedicated reloading space.

I have been mulling in my head a design for a steel-framed, wooden clad bench made from re-claimed materials. Are you suggesting that a wooden-framed, wooden clad bench would be sturdier?
