30-30 for fox

Postby Deallad » Sat Dec 30, 2017 5:00 pm

Just had my FEO visit for FAC renewal.

Had my marlin 336 in 30-30win put on for fox.

Question is, does anyone use 30-30 win for fox? with the Hornaday ftx 160gn bullet it knocks them down and out superbly.

Will be a great gun topped off with the Zeiss Conquest illuminated reticule.

What had you got it conditioned for originally, target?
If it was for any live quarry the AOLQ condition would have covered it anyway.

The Marlin 336 in 30-30win was originally on my FAC for target. It was the bargain of the century as only paid £300 for it.

I put a Leupold base, rings and topped it off with a Zeiss scope, I also put a Wild West Guns happy trigger in it. shoots about 1 moa

With the Hornaday Lever Evolution 160ftx ammo delivers 2450 fps it's made the 30-30 a game changer

The original owner had only shot it once in 40 years (more of a collector than a shooter) and had fired less then 20 rounds from new I was given the remaining rounds he bought on the day of purchase

my Remy 700 in 223rem was conditioned for both target and live quarry, but after putting the McMillan stock on the rifle become far too heavy for carrying round the field though is a superb target rifle of fixed position foxer.

Would the term AOLQ also cover deer?

If you have deer permission or payed for stalking it easily exceeds the minimum required calibre/velocity/energy requirements even for reds.
