Offensive Weapons bill latest 30/10

Postby Matt H » Tue Oct 30, 2018 6:37 pm

Latest news.

A)

For those representing against the blatant discrimination against the Disabled in the OWB with the ban on MARS etc.

Please see and act upon the following communication from the Countryside Alliance as it seems too few are pointing out the issues of lack of access to suitable rifle actions to build disabled adapted systems upon since the 1988 ban and the restrictions on short firearms in the 1997/1998 bans.

Both of those bans deliberately discriminate against the less able bodied and should be challenged to the minister for Disabled people, Sarah Newton MP.

Thank you

Thank you for forwarding this email to the Countryside Alliance. Please be assured your views on the Offensive Weapons Bill’s (OWB) impact on disabled shooting has been, and continues to be, raised within the British Shooting Sports Council and with MPs.

There is little doubt that the restrictions being placed on firearms through the OWB are so the Government are seen to be doing something about crime/terrorism, rather than actually doing something about crime/terrorism. However, when it gets this far through the process there is little to stop it. The .50 calibre amendment has managed to gather a large number of signatures, yet this still does not guarantee it’s safety.

I would highly recommend you getting in touch with the Minister of State for Disabled People, Sarah Newton MP, regarding the OWB. It would mean far more coming from yourself rather than a lobbying group such as the Countryside Alliance. The restrictions from the OWB should remain your priority ask, and with the delays that are being seen with the third reading and report stage, there is still time.

If you would like assistance in writing to Sarah Newton, about the impacts of the OWB on the disabled shooting community, then please get back in touch.

Kind regards,
Jack Knott
Campaigns Manager
