Hi all
I recently refurbished my 1958 BRNO Model 5, it's lacquer was entirely worn off in some areas with patches of bare wood on well used surfaces.
So I decided to re-finish the whole thing. NB: If you have a broken or unwanted woodstock and are happy to send it to me I will re-finish it, post the pictures up here and help share my experience.
I started by using a stripper to remove all of the existing oils, lacquer, dirt etc that had built up over 60 years of shooting in all conditions
This left a very bare and pale piece of wood to work with
The wood surface was very smooth so I chose not to sand it, and placed a nice mahogany dye on
Finally I applied 5 coats of linseed oil over several days and then applied a clear varnish once it had fully dried.
