SGC Speedmaster open sights..?

Postby whisky shooter » Sat Sep 21, 2019 3:33 pm

Does anyone know if there is open sights that would fit the Old style SGC Speedmaster with the high top...?
I’m planning buying an old style Speedmaster (due to price) but I want to use it with open sights only, my reasons are I’m struggling with my M1 in competition  due to being left handed, the Speedmaster with left hand cocking would allow me to be “slinged” up, also having the heavy barrel..

SGC should be able to source the AR 15 carry handle sights. It looks like they would fit the Picatinny rails on the AR 15 style straight pull. Failing that there should be the back up iron sights that are available for Picatinny rails.

Hi Guys, thanks for the help, I seem to be very busy these days with work and home, my shooting habit has been less active of late but I hope to change that later this year, my other hobby is painting and I have a full order book at the moment, this is very time consuming, both my kids are at university costing me a fortune  hence the idea of settling for an older AR, and the one I was looking at doesn’t have a completely flat top but raised by about 25-30mm thus not being able to accept a carry handle, my latest thinking is I will hold on until the right one comes along..

Alas, the AR upper receiver assemblies in the US are pretty much unregulated. If you were a US resident, a simple mail order and your problems would be solved. The lower receiver is the rub and completely regulated. In the US if you can get the lower than you can build any AR and buy as many rifle AR uppers as you care to.

My brother joined the US Marines in 1966. He trained with the M1 Garand in boot camp. They were issued M14 shortly afterwards. He was left handed too and had similar issues with bouncing hot brass. He was issued the first of the M16's while in Viet Nam on the DMZ. That gun blew up on him. I considered him firearm management challenged.

I love my M1, but it’s awkward in competition as I can’t sling up and re-cock the rifle, hopefully I will be set up with an AR for the next Service rifle comp..it will be also quicker when it comes to loading a magazine, the en bloc clips can be fiddly
