The benefits of having family

Postby Coldfinger » Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:40 pm

My cousin is in his mid 70's and decided that since he hadn't used his .22 semi auto and his two shotguns for many years, and his wife was ill, he'd give up his FAC and sell the guns.

He only lives 2 miles from me as the crow flies so he travelled 10 mile to a dealer and received £180 for the three.

The dealer then advertised the over and under for £500. "I got ripped off" he said.

Being family, and holding a shotgun certificate and an FAC, I had to agree.

Why,Why,Why, do they not not think to contact their pals and relatives to sell their guns. I have bought guns off several friends and relative, giving them over £50 more than the gun shop offered, and then either kept them or sold them on for a few pounds profit. It's a win win situation.

I've given collectible rifles to relatives worth over $1000 only to watch them trade them to a dealer in for $100 for a plastic piece of Smith & Wesson crap. I tried to buy one rifle back but the dealer had sold it within an hour. I don't give out much to relatives anymore.
