Sending an air rifle. Courier??

Fri Oct 30, 2009 12:53 am

Hi guys. I was just wondering what the laws are about sending a .22 air rifle via courier in the UK. I am wanting to send my rifle from Devon to Scotland.
I emailed Royal Mail some months ago and they basically said that they wouldn't take it. When i was in a gun shop a while ago the man there said that ParcelForce will 'courier' them provided that they are sent next day delivery.

Can anyone confirm this for me please? Thank you in advance.

You cannot send it by Parcel Forcew unless you are an RFD with an account and written prior agrrement. Then it has to go RFD to RFD. If you use them and it's found they will not deliver it and it's not insured.

Royal Mail must carry them, it's part of their regulations.

Send it by Special Delivery if it's less than 600mm long or by Standard Parcel and pay for extra insurance.

That because you live on an island in the middle of nowhere.

Don't complain though, TNT want that plus VAT to take a rifle from Stoke to North Wales!

Just get yourself a big cardboard poster tube

I bought an airgun from a guy In wales and that Is what he sent It in ;)

He even fitted the scope (off the gun) In the tube as well and It was all packed In bubble wrap.

You don`t have to tell royal mail what`s In the tube

jase.

Parcel Force carry Royal Mail parcels.

BTW. While waiting for connections at Lisbon airport I decided to kill some time by walking into the airport plodshop and asking them the best way to get an air rifle from GB to the Azores.
Portugese Police weren't at all sure of themselves but suggested that I send it by post direct to a person who had an FAC here (limit for FAC is sub 17.7 ft/lb).
