The two hot HMR moderators of the moment are the DM80 and the Wildcat Whisper.

Both are an over-barrel design of roughly the same dimensions. The DM80 costs about £100 and the Wildcat £125.
Although most reviews say that the Wildcat is the quietest, I don't think that makes much difference. I think the real difference between them is that the DM80 is not finished to the same standard as the Wildcat - the Wildcat looking like the finished article and the DM80 looks like a prototype.

I had a Wildcat on my HMR (when I had one) and have a Wildcat on my .22LR (they are available in .22 and .17 sizes) and very happy with both.

Kev.

P.S. While Andy (owner of Wildcat) is a forum sponsor here, this has not influenced the above - I write what I think.

I have a DM80 on my .17 and it's very good. It does look like a bit of black drain pipe, though. The Wildcat ones are very much purdier!

wildcat have defo stepped up to the plate in terms of development when its comes to the predator 8 and whisperer...the .17 whisperer is actually calibre specific instead of going for the .22 wmr route...the predator 8 is lighter than the T8, doesn't rust and you can change or "pimp" spec to your rifles individual needs by changing the length of relfex chamber and baffles...in short...possibly the last silencer you will need to purchase....some thing's claim to be cutting edge technology...this in short is as future proof as it gets....can you tell i'm impressed....

According to Wildcat's literature, the standard Predator8 weighs 690g. According to Jackson rifles, the T8 weighs 630g.
Both are available in lighter variants.

They're both fullbore mods though - you wouldn't waste or want them on a HMR! :)

I had a DM80 when they were a lot less than £100 to buy, and it worked well and was then worth what I paid for it easily over the cheaper SAK it replaced. However, I'm not sure I'd pay £100 for one if there was something better finished for only £25 more and performance was comparable.

I have one of the earlier DM80's & would recommend them to anyone.
The new ones have a recessed "crown" area.Easy peasy to strip & clean.

DM80 for me, I have one on my HMR and another on my .243, best accessory I've ever bought for any gun.

I've got a wildcat, my mates got a DM80 on the hmrs - absolutely NO audible difference in sound whatsoever, at all, no matter what anyone says. I will say that the wildcat is a LOT LOT easier to strip and clean. I've probably put 2000+ rounds through it and it looks like new after I clean it. Not many silencers boast that! Although apparently a lot of suppliers I notice are reccomending you don't clean them  It does get quieter whan dirty, but I just dont like screwing a dirty smelly silencer on my shiny clean barrel crown.

Yep, another  for the DM80 although I can only compare it against a SAK. I have the DM80s, the new version, it is light, compact and does the job very nicely indeed. The only complaint I have is that I don;t get out as onften as i'd like to use it  .
