My two Yankee Battle Rifles

Top is my recently acquired Remington made Springfield 1903 30-06 rifle. Made in September 1943, or at least the barrel was. It's a two groove barrel with wartime economies in construction. First indications is it shoots at least OK. Early days yet.

Underneath is my M1917 30-06 rifle. Made in 1918. It's had a rough life but still shoots minute of geezer (if he's close).

The bayonet is for the Springfield.

I just want a fine spell to get out and shoot them.
If you don't have to give up your car because other people commit crimes in their cars, why should I have to give up my firearms because other people commit crimes with their firearms?

Shootist,
Both very nice rifles.
I particularly like the Springfield, there's just something about them, it's an itch I've never got round to scratching.

Can we look forward to a range report in due course?

Those are both great rifles. The Enfield takea the same bayonet as the Brit WWI Enfield. The 1917 model was one my first rifles. I had a Eddystone that I replaced with a Remington. No matter as I alway have had one to play with. Then there is the Springfield. They are just fun to shoot and a classic. You can"t go wrong with either of them

He'll be doing "Saving Private Ryan" down our range next.

Still at least he'll hit the target if he's using a bayonet!

I might just manage it if I confine the bayonet charge to the 25 yard range. If I try it on the 50 yard I'll collapse in a steaming heap halfway. :(

Very nice - all small boys should have a couple! :)
If it has a trigger I'm gonna enjoy it!

Look - an eagle!

Perhaps he can do the Bell tower scene. There's not much running it that position; only lots of praying. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Another Yankee rifle. Actually It's a Burnside carbine and a US Civil War veteran. I had it out in order to correct something mounted on the gun. Can you find the problem.
