FAC conundrum

Postby Keef » Mon Nov 23, 2015 7:51 pm

Here's a nice conundrum for you to contemplate.

I was asked to store four rifles for an FAC holder who had put his renewal application in but was told he couldn't have a temporary permit, all four rifles were entered on his fac so would show on the national computer as being held by him.

Thirteen weeks late he gets his new FAC back.

Under "Firearms Possessed" the entry is "None".

Under "Firearms Authorised to obtain" are an authority to acquire the four rifles he already has.

I told him the FAC was wrong and that I couldn't give him his rifles back as it would mean entering them on his FAC as new acquisitions which would bugger up the entry on the national computer.

He has contacted his licensing office who tell him what he's got is correct and that I can give him his rifles. They say the system changed six months ago.

Now as far as I'm concerned as an RFD he owns these rifles and they were already entered on his old FAC so I cannot re-enter them again.

Anyone experienced this before?

Sounds typical of our supposed national system :turd: :thdn: the old sayings of "left hand not knowing what the right is doing" or similar involving arse and elbow, come to mind.

If he has been told by his firearms admin that he can have his rifles back by entering them on his ticket then I'd give them him back, entering them on his ticket. If that buggers up the entries on the national computer then that's their problem. I'd be inclined to confirm what they said first though. Actually, once that's confirmed then the idea of buggering up the national computer brings a little glow of warmth to my heart.
If you don't have to give up your car because other people commit crimes in their cars, why should I have to give up my firearms because other people commit crimes with their firearms?

Im with shootist on this one, confirm with police what the procedure is, preferably in writing, then follow that procedure, if it bu**ers up their system thats up to them

Given he has permission to buy 4 new rifles then if he did so what would happen to the other 4?

Would they just dissapear? Ie. On the system but not registered to anyone.

Having sought advice from my own licensing office it's likely that because his are would not issue a temporary permit when he gave them to me for storage his office took them off him and put them out to me.

Anyway, I have had to enter them on his FAC and do a notification to his licensing office that I have transferred them to him.

Had they issued a temporary permit which they are obliged to if the renewal application has gone in well before expiry I assume they would have remained as his on the National Computer.
