It has a hinged floor plate and I believe it holds 4 or 5 rounds. It has the stripper clip guide and can be fed with 5 round stripper clips

Merry Christmas!

I think you got a great deal. Even with fixed sights, that gun will be an excellent, accurate shooter.

Yeah, it's a vintage 1963 Model 10-5 with a C prefix serial number. It's finish is almost as good at the day it left the factory with only superficial wear. I'm really happy to to find one that old and great condition made long before Smith & Wesson became too cost wary and got away from the earlier niceties of their production gunsmithing. It looks exactly like your pencil then 4 inch barrel in identical condition. It was a great find. I guess folks are still passing on quality revolvers in favor of crap semi's. While I was at the gun store their were older folks and first time gun buyers looking seriously at Taurus semi autos. Their semi auto's don't interest me at all. What I found more surprising was that these folks weren't gun people at all. I guess that OBama and is policies have lots of folks spooked into buying smaller self protection guns.
The faster I go, the older I get.

Taurus have just reached a settlement on a class action ref their semi's brought by a Sherriff. Seems they are a touch dangerous:

The drop test is a major issue with imports. Pistols that fail a drop test and not legally importable. I tried to import a Webley Mark IV 455 revolver but failed to do so solely due to its failure to pass a drop test due to its fixed firing pin. The import form specifies the requirement to pass the drop test. That would place Taurus in a tough position if the admitted their pistols will not pass the drop test. They would lose a major portion of their sales to the North American market.

I picked up my Remington 40X this afternoon from the FFL and looked it over. It looks pretty good. I particularly gave the barrel a good look and it looks pretty good to me. A commentor on another forum suggested that I look the rifling over carefully, particularly near the chamber. He advised that the barrel might be shot out if there was little or no rifling ahead of the chamber. The rifling looks sharp and crisp at the muzzle and as best I could tell, it wasn't a whole lot different at the chamber end. The rifling went all the way to chamber.

I couldn't find my CMP muzzle gauge, but gave it the "bullet test" with a 175 gr Nosler CC and the bore seems tight.

I tried to take a few pictures, but didn't have a lot of luck. I got a few fair ones at the muzzle, no luck at all getting anything from the chamber end.

That looks in wonderful condition. I wouldn't worry so much about the barrel. It's easy enough to replace if needed.

Thanks, Flinty. I've got several boxes of 175 gr Federal Gold Medal Match ready to go when the weather clears up. I'll post a range report soon (hopefully)

I had a Remington 40X in .22lr many moons ago. It was superbly accurate, so if yours is even half as good it will be a winner!
