Thanks, Buffy.

Originally, all Garands were chambered in 30.06. Later, when the M-14 came out and was chambered in 7.62 x 51 (.308W), the US Navy decided that they would rechamber all their Garands to 7.62 x 51 and save the cost of buying new rifles. A few years ago, the CMP sold a bunch of US Navy barreled Garand receivers.
