I am unaware of any jacketed ammunition for .22lr on the market. What you may mean is the coper washed ammunition available, usually high velocity which I personally regard as pointless in the UK for hunting. Fine for target, especially in semi autos, but who needs the extra noise, the reduced accuracy, and the greater problem it has with the wind?
Expanding ammunition for .22lr subsonic is something I have always had my doubts about in respect of expansion at least. I've had it shoot through rabbits on quite a few occassions and if you consider the millions of rabbits shot with .22lr before the latest all singing all dancing hollow points, well /I doubt you'll hear any complaints from the rabbits. Shot placement with an accurate rifle is what's needed for live quarry. Find a hollow point subsonic round that suits your rifle for accuracy and stick with it. I suspect you'll need a lot of practice to shoot pigeons with a .22lr without spoiling the breast.
As for different rounds being cleaner, all the clag in the action is from the powder. Don't worry about it, other than perhaps a pull through to get rid of the grot in the barrel at the end of a day's shooting. (cleaning the action is another issue and is more important on semi autos, which will clog up quickly if you're using a sound moderator. My first powder burner was a CZ Style .22lr which I will own. It gets cleaned about once a year whether it needs it or not and will still out shoot all but the bench rest types.
If you don't have to give up your car because other people commit crimes in their cars, why should I have to give up my firearms because other people commit crimes with their firearms?
