I'm currently having a French circa 1750 "fusil a l'ancre" trade gun built from "scratch" (more or less). It's an interesting gun and a near copy of an original. The builder, Mike Gahagan of Leicester, North Carolina, USA. is placing the step by step build process on Facebook. The source information for the build was collected from a now out of print book entitled "The French Trade Gun in North America 1662-1759" by Kevin Gladysz. It nearly the only comprehensive book on such guns. The trade gun were iconic features on the early colonial frontier in America. They ceased to be imported to the continent after the Seven Years War also know in the US as the French and Indian War. Their general design was adapted by New England gunsmiths to make colonial hunting guns. If you are interested in see the work that's that involved as well as the progress of the gun you can find that information at the Facebook link below. Enjoy.
