A Hornet is twice an HMR and a "proper" fox gun

Much depends on what you want to use it for

Personally a Hornet (Or better yet a triple) would offer more poke and more flexibility without being .......GAY

Just as well I asked for the Hornet

The Hornet has a very poor selection of new rifles(not as many as HMR) and ammo is gonna be a bit scarce (although I will start home loading once I get the bits)

Spoke to FEO earlier on regarding my FAC application. It has been passed through to Admin and is waiting to be ratified......the FEO expects it should be with me on Tuesday (should it go through ok with them)

Lookout local gunshops ;)

Looks good Mike; once you're up and running you'll have to bring it down for a play with the NV on it as well :DD

I'm planning using green dot powder to download the Hornet for bunnies. I calculated that I'll get around 1200 loads per tub and with lead costing nothing at all I reckon this could be a very cheap, quiet and accurate load at around 2000 fps for general use.

The HMR doesn't give you the same flexibility but is more accurate at 100 yards and out of the box. If you don't reload, the Hornet is considerably more expensive as well.

Hmmm........lead costing nothing at all - which church roof have you been visiting Robbie?

I'm going to melt down all my diving weights and the next door neighbour owns a tyre garage so wheel weights are aplenty.

I've got enough lead to last a lifetime :)

Hope there old wheel weights, don't think they've been made of lead for a year or two.Don't know what there made from but mixed with lead may give a harder cast.

i got rid of my HMR nearly 2 years ago and spent a long time without a gun for that distance, i settled on the .22 hornet however i am not sure i made the right decision, that said i bought a cheap dog of a 2nd hand gun and it seems the throat is a little worn out, when i can afford it i will replace it and try again, the results i have got are about 1.5 inches at 100 yards which i dont even consider a group but i do take rabbits with it out to 150 easy and the reloading is nice and cheap compared to the .223 or the 25-06

Hi,just thought i'd add my thoughts on a .22 hornet,i've a CZ American with moderator,it shoots straight and is in my opinion excellent vaue for money,I also reload as factory ammo is expensive, have a look at one.you won't be disappointed.

Hi Alan,

I own a CZ527 American bought it a couple of weeks ago - I haven't used it yet as I'm waiting for my scope to arrive from the US.
I bought 100 winchester rounds to get me going and I'll keep hold of the brass for when I start reloading.

The only thing i have noticed with the CZ is that the floating barrel is touching the wood on one side! I'm also concerned that certain BT heads wont fit in the magazine so I'm half tempted to strip mag and file down the plastic stop!

Mike,

You want to get that sorted. It will hurt accuracy.
