.22 HV and HMR effect

Postby mr smith » Sun Apr 20, 2008 12:24 am

Apparently or so i've read rabbits tend not to be too preturbed by the sonic crack from an HMR bullet, allowing follow up shots.Does anyone use .22 Hv rounds on rabbits, and do they hang around awaiting their turn. Now i know HV's don't have a good name as far as accuracy goes, but would like to hear from anyone who's tried them.

I've just bought a box of Winchester HV .22 but not had a chance to try them yet, I will follow up as soon as I get out with them. :)
I like to think the older I get the wiser I become, but I'm not so sure.

It's a strange one this, bunnies don't seem to be bothered too much by the sound signature of an HMR at all. Until I sold my HMR a few months back, I regularly used to shoot groups of them - my record was 9 in one place within 2 min!
HV .22 certainly catches their attention at the same distance.
I've never found a HV .22 round that is nearly as accurate as subs and they don't give much in extended range either.

Here is a graph I knocked up dome time ago to show the differences between rimmy rounds:
