Lubing pellets

Postby sniper2011 » Thu Feb 14, 2013 8:23 pm

getting out too zero the s200 tommoro, have three types of pellets ftt power, h&n crow mag and premier hp have put em in my soft PS vita pouch which has handy soft compartments to separate them, I've treated them with Napier power pellet lube as I had some as used in my hw99 and caused detonation! Am toldits great for use with pcps though. Has anybody tried it?

I've never lubed pellets in any air rifle so this is something new. Any carbon base oil or powder flammable materials such as powdered waxes can cause dieseling in a piston powered air gun. I would stay away from such lubes in general. I use a carbon free silicone lube formulated specifically for air guns as a cylinder lube for my air rifle. It only needs a drop or two at the most although I've had dieseling with that also. Generally oil works it way into the bore so I'm not sure that you need to lube the pellets at all.
The faster I go, the older I get.

Chris,

These lubes are a gimmick. Just don't load badly bent pellets and get on with it :D

I agree Chris, the bore should be pretty much dry when shooting with a very light oiling for storage for longer than normal periods.

Save your dosh mate or spend it on that little one of yours instead of pellet lube :)

Il never use it again in a Springer only in pcp, prevents bore corrosion apparently :-S worth a try I suppose

So does normal gun oil that you should have anyway as part of your normal cleaning routine without the added expense.

I usually use the shoot through 'cigarrete filters' on my airguns with a dab of none corrosive oil to avoid knackering seals

I agree about pellet lubes being as most a gimmick, at worse causing dieselling in springers.
Air Arms pellets worked best in my S200.

If you have a S200, try Air Arms Field or JSB Exact pellets. They will almost certainly be the most accurate.

Biz mags worked very well in my Daystate, but JSB Heavy Diablos worked the best.
