New Air Rifle + Trigger pull problems.

Postby RE8ELD0G » Sat May 25, 2013 10:44 pm

Ok so i got offered a bargin and had to take it.
Ive just acquired a SMK 19 .22 break barrel with Hawke airmax 3-9x40 scope in a buffalo river bag and a tin of pellets for the princly sum of .........

£50.

Problem is, its the same exact trigger mechanism as my Gamo CF 20 and its a pain in the butt.
I cannot get it to group smaller than 1" at 25yds due to the heaviness of the trigger pull.
Same goes for my Gamo.

Ive been searching everywhere but cannot find any instruction on how to polish the sear to help reduce the weight of the pull.
I already have the return spring off and some ground washers in to decrease it but its still very heavy.

Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Its stopping me going hunting.....!!!!!

I have already done that but without it costing me £30+ quid by adding the washers as spacers to the trigger.

I specifically need to know how to polish/grind the sear down. Its the last thing i can do to lighten it.

Typically sears are cut, polished, and hardened. The sear angle is cut at a particular geometry and critical for the proper safe function of the gun. This is really the domain of a trained gunsmith and not something a typical gun owner should play with. It easy enough to remove a bit of the surface area of the sear enough so it will present soft metal which will wear with time and create a dangerous condition. The sear really has little to do with the trigger weight.
The faster I go, the older I get.

Actually the sear is what holds the full weight of the cocked spring on these guns.
Pulling the trigger pushes on another part that then in turn pivots the sear to release the spring/piston.
If i can smooth the sear (its very rough and poorly finished) then it will release the spring easier and in turn make for an easier trigger pull.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any videos/links before i start doing it myself.
