MTC scope related question

Postby wplumridge » Tue Aug 13, 2013 12:58 pm

Hi Gentlemen
A MTC scope related question on Sunday talking to another member of our club he highlighted an possible issue with his MTC scope mounts. On closer inspection the gap between the top of the rifle and the bottom of the mount was larger on one side than the other. My friend and I also have MTC scopes on HW100’s and both of these also look to be out off level we also looked at a couple of other guns some with high mounts like owes and some with medium and even a low one all looked out off level any ideas guys.
:hmm:

are these mounts specifically made for airguns :?:
if I'm reading this correctly,is one mount taller than the other :?: (but not by much)
if that's the case, then the tall one will fit at the end of the scope with the ocular bell, this will replace the need for shims :hmm:

There are 2 standards for dovetails.

One is metric at 11mm across the widest part and the other is imperial at 3/8" across the narrowest part.

Most mounts of this type seem to be one size 'sort of' fits all. On some rings you can take off and turn over the clamping part for a better fit on the 2 different standards.

Cheers

I wouldnt worry about it, as long as the reticle is level the only effect will be a tiny offset of the scope to one side, probably small enough to make no practical difference.

I have an early Viper and the mounts that came with it are entirely useless because the clamps do not come close enough together to grip a dovetail at all, 11mm or 3/8" I've tried them on both, screwed right up they slide freely along the dovetail!

I too have noticed this.

I don't use the mounts that come with the scope.

Then consider that it was his first and only post since joining in October 2011. Go figure.
For the avoidance of doubt, there is no such thing as "American English". There is the English language and there are mistakes.
