New Air Rifle? But which one ?!

Postby Smurfpop » Fri Jan 31, 2014 8:04 pm

Evening everyone,

I'm going up to the British shooting show which we all know about in Feb. My intention is to buy myself a new air rifle but there is a lot of choice. It's got to be powerful enough for small game , pre charged and good value for money. I guess it will be down to personnel preference but I thought I'd pose the question to get fellow forum users opinons??

Thanks.... Lee

As you can see from above, there are lots of opinions on which PCP is best.
For the avoidance of doubt, there is no such thing as "American English". There is the English language and there are mistakes.

i am in the market for a new pcp, after months of research there seems to be two rifles used for vermin shooting more than anything else.
the hw100 or the daystate huntsman.
in the real world most modern pcp's will be more accurate than you,the thing that sets the above two apart from the rest is reliability and build quality.
the hw100 is regulated but a bit heavy, and while the kt is not the prettiest gun it has the best mag feed system out there.
the daystate is non regulated and some have fiddly mags, but is slightly lighter and prettier
i would happily have both, but my money is going to the hw100kt as ive handled both and prefer the feel of it as well as the mag system.
the aa s410 is also worth a mention but it has a small power band and quite heavy, it is also prone to double feeds

Hi guys,
Thank you for all your advice on which is the best air rifle out there in terms of power and value for money.

I think I'm leaning toward the hw100 but I will also look at the daystate.

I'm looking forward to the shooting show in a couple of weeks. I ain't coming back without a new rifle that's for sure!

All the best.... Lee

The Daystaye Regal mag system feeds beautifuly, you would be mad to say they don't, you should try it sometime, I have never had any issue with Daystate mags feeding and I have had several Daystates in sub 12 and FAC.

Its funny how 1 person has a bad magazine and they all have the same problem!

I have shot many air rifles, sub 12 and FAC, rim fire, and centre fire, I am really astounded by my Regals accuracy, it is simply awesome.

My advise before you choose, is to have a look and try both, they are both great air rifles and you wont go wrong with either, but try both and see what suits you. People quote things from what they have read and heard and not from actually trying things them selfs!

One thing Dave (Leadpig) said that is true is the Regal is not regulated, but from a full charge to the 106 th shot there was only a 9 ftps spread from my rifle. That just demonstrates the level of consistency and performance Daystate cam offer.

the last 3 daystates i've tried have had sticky mags,or mag issues, admittedly they were not huntsmans, and not all of them are like that.
i phoned daystate about one and they recommended a file

Even with its sticky mags and no regulated receiver!

Airgun of the year 2013 is.....

The Daystate Huntsman Regal!

News from the March 2014 edition of Airgun Shooter Magazine is that the Huntsman Regal has been voted by its readership as Airgun of the year as well as also being voted Best new PCP.

The Regal has been top of the charts since it release last summer, but this award really shows how much this diminutive little rifle is seen as such a big hitter with shooters.
