Get round your mates and scrounge 20 or so pellets of as many varieties as you can and put 'em down your rifle at some targets and see which your rifle likes

Anschutz 1517 &1417, Ruger 10-22 22LR

Sako L61 270, CZ 527 .204
Lee Enfield No 4, Mauser 7.92

pellet sample packs,25 pellets for around £1/1.50 per pack ;)

http://www.pelletperfect.co.uk/index.ph ... ry&path=36

i would try these, 2x5 shot groups from a rested position at 25 yards, keep the rifle in the sweet spot

BISLEY LONG RANGE GOLD .22, BISLEY MAGNUM .22, JSB EXACT .22 , AIR ARMS FIELD .22 5.51mm, AIR ARMS FIELD .22 5.52mm, H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY .22 (5.53mm), RWS SUPERDOME .22

the JSB,air arms and daystate (domed/field) pellets are all exactly the same, made by JSB.
all he'll need to do is find the size 5.51,5.52 etc that suits his barrel.
i wouldn't both with any other brands other than these,as I've never had a gun that wouldn't shoot them.
i only use JSB 16 grn 5.52 in my rapid and it spits them out at 36 ft/lbs and groups 1/2" @ 80 yds with no wind 8-)

may i suggest that you read the entire thread David ;)
the finished shape is reliant on whichever die is used in the manufacturing process.
ergo, the same branded pellet can be slightly different or the same between whichever batch you happen to buy at the time.
