new pcp

Postby neil9629 » Sat Aug 02, 2014 6:38 pm

Im now looking for a new pcp, i have springers and rammers.
I sold my s200 mk2 and have regretted it ever since, it was bang on, boring,
but put a pellet where it needed to go.
Im quite a big lad with hands like jcb buckets, so not to bothered about chunkyness
or weight.
Are there lads of similar stature who can recommend a rifle for me ?
It has to be .22 because we all know its the best calibre. ;)

A rapid had crossed my mind, i will look into them further as i know
nothing about them.
I do like my evo rammer, a very solid, well built gun.

Good to see im not the only big guy into shooting. I am 6ft 9 with JCB hands!

I had an Air Arms S400 and regret selling it, as you said pellet on pellet it used to shoot quarter inch groups at 40 yards. With JSB exact pellets.

So I guess my recommendation would be for the AA S400 I had the beach stock but the walnut does look much nicer.

Top it off with a Leupold scope

I`ve got a crusader running at 26 ft/lbs and it shoots great.
sold my FAC rapid last year (that was doing 36 ft/lbs with JSB`s) but I`d have another tomorrow 8-)

Dont get me wrong lads, i loved the s200 but it wasn't a mans gun, if you catch
my drift.
I prefer a heavier gun with a good solid clunky loading bolt and thick stock.

Any stock makers on here ?

Don't mess about with also rans Neil.

I own a small collection of PCPs; including Zenith, Walther, NJR and AA400.

For serious shooting I reach for one of my Steyr LG100s.
If you like a bit of heft you can add weights to the butt, forend and barrel via barrel weights.

It's also the easiest PCP to shoot, bar none.

Ps, I'm 5'11" and a svelte 13 stone, so not a giant but not a midget either. :D

HW100 all the way. They are silky smooth, deadly accurate, and only real men can fire them off-hand!

Are you wanting a FAC or fub 12 to start off with?

Have a Look into to Air ranger Regal. It was the voted to be the number one air gun in 2013/2014.

Pros.

- It is lovely looking.
- It is so well balanced and point-able/manageable
- Deadly, and I mean precision accuracy. (Mine and my mates will put pellet on pellet at 30 yards with AA fields 16 grain pellets in good, low wind conditions.)
- You actually do get the advertised 95 full power shots for the sub 12 version. (Mine will give over 105 full power shots, and then it drops about 5-10 ftps per shot after that. My friends gives just over 100 full power shots before it goes south)
- The sub 12 ftps version is the quietest air rifle I haven't heard  The loudest part of the shot is the hammer clicking and hitting the valve inside the action ( You can even get a Hugget shroud, this is an high performance extra. Makes it even quieter, but it seriously isn't needed.
- FAC version is also available if desired.
- All the above and more for around the £750 - £850. Probably the best all round value for money with massive performance too.
- I have owned quite a lot of air rifle over the years, Webley, Air Arms, Daystate Air Rangers etc etc. None of them have ever been as accurate out to 30 - 40 yards, I mean my Air Ranger was very accurate out to 80 yards in good condition but that was FAC rated so not a fair comparison, out to 40 yards though the Regal would kick its ass!

Cons.

- Yet to really find any.
- When I bought the rifle and charged it up for the first time, it was flat in the morning. I range Daystate support and they offered me either a new rifle sent out immediately or to send mine back to them FOC for repair. The advised me just to check the pressure gauge as apparently they had a load of dodgy ones come through that were faulty and slowly discharging the rifles over time etc. I checked it myself and confirmed the gauge to be leaking....Daystate sent me one out in the post which I got the next day, fitted it myself in 2 minutes and never had a problem since. This should actually be in the pros sections as any air rifle can leak or have a one off but Daystate technical support were great.

Have a look at them, worth checking them out mate.

Hope this has been off some help?

Steve.
