The best pellet to use

Postby Nathan2312 » Wed Nov 12, 2014 12:53 pm

Ok guys as advised i made a new topic to gather some opinions

Im new to the Air gun world and finding it a little complex on choosing the best pellet to suit my needs, there seems to be an endless choice in weight, shape and brands.

Im using an Air arms s510 sub 12 ft/lbs .22, shooting targets at a range of 30 meters. no hunting yet but hunting is a goal, so id like a pellet that is capable for rabbits. this way i can get a feel for the pellet while target shooting and not have to change when i go to hunting etc.

any advice is appreciated as always :)

Hi Nathan,

You answer is quite simple tbh. Use the most accurate pellet you can find, weather that be hollow points, domed heads, pointed pellets etc etc. The most accurate pellet does ted to be some sort of dumb head, and the worst past 15 yards tends to be flat heads.

My advise would be, buy or borrow a large selection of pellets to try, on eBay you use to be able to get an assorted box with a selection to try. Try different weights, shapes and head spaces as you can (5.50, 5.51, 5.52 etc etc)

The one that prints the best groups at your maximum hunting range (say 35-40'yards) is the pellet to use. At that range there is pleanty of energy to kill you quarry, it's a question of putting the pellet accurately in the correct place, and the best way to do that is to practice and and too use the most accurate pellet you can find.

I would recommend for you to try,

In no order,

AA fields,
JSB Diablo
Accuapell pell (Crossman)
Power pell ( Crossman)

I'll be shocked if you don't find you pellet out on one of the above. ;)

Let us know how you get on mate.

Good luck
