what is .22?

recently i have had trouble achieving any kind of consistency WRT accuaracy from my antique 0.22" (pre 2000AD) air rifles.
what has transpired is that the UK air gun and ammo manufacturers have deserted the uk market in preference to european/US sales.
(the UK market should therefor abandon the UK manufacturers in my opinion).
one thing that i have found, however, is that older pellets may have been even bigger on skirt diameter that 5.6mm, the "old" .22" diameter.
pellets from a tin of "wasp" from the '60s or so measures 5.78-5.83mm across the skirt!
does any one else have vintage pellets that could be measured?

Wasp pellets are still available, but I don't know how they perform.

my brother visited a gun shop recently. they said they has wasp .22 but the quality is poor. having previously bought 4000 i can vouch that they look rough compared to the shiny, uniform product of old. :( add to that, they are 5.5mm not 5.6mm, which is what i need.

They make Wasp's in 5.5 and 5.6 .... it's in the advert. They are in the blue tin.

i put in requests for notification of availability of 5.6mm wasps on two sites weeks ago. the gunshop my brother visited only had 5.5mm and thought that was all there is. i certainly haven't found any 5.6mm other than exhorbitantly priced "collectors" items.

Get them from Countryway gun shop in the link. £5.75 for 500 pellets is about as cheap as it gets.
