Good torch??

Postby Foxyfil » Sun Jul 29, 2012 4:31 pm

Guys
I'm on the lookout for a new torch which will give me a compact powerful beam in the field.
Must be small (6-8") and rechargeable.
If it can be attached to a scope, its a bonus, as would be filters, but they're not a must.
My last one was an £8 aluminium torch from Tescos with a button on the back which threw a 200m spot beam. Lost it :( and Tescos dont do 'em no more.
Obviously Id pay more than £8 for a replacement
Any ideas? :hmm: :hmm:

I've one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1000-Lumens-CREE-XML-T6-LED-High-Quality-Zoomable-Focus-Flashlight-Torch-/230803674718?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item35bcf8965e

I wouldn't say it's a 200 meter beam though, that seems a lot for a small torch (unless I'm just blind).

It's zoomable to give the tight beam you want, have a shop round and you might find it cheaper, but it does not come with batteries. A scope or barrel mount can be got for around £5-6.
You might be able to get a filter for the light, but with LED's you then lose a lot of the light, so your better getting a replacement LED in another colour if you need another colour.

I've got a LED Lenser P14... First time i'd bought a Cree over around £10, and i'm really impressed with the build quality. Uses 'AA' Cells, too, which was something i'd wanted. Not these 18650/CR123 jobs.

I have a Thrunite TN11 which allows me to shoot to 250m and spot further.
I mount it on the rimfire with a SportsMatch TM3 gun mount:

Thanks guys
I noticed that all your kit featured the CREE LEDs, which I had heard of, but had done no research on.
After reading up on it, it would appear that they increase the light output by massive amounts on the same wattage.
All sound good.
Will carry on researching.

Huh :thdn:
I can find better torch then yours in a cheap rate :-D last week a bought a fenix for just only $5 from eBay. it's an awesome. Do you think you've a good knowledge about flashlights? I don't think so :-P

That was a rather aggressive first post and for the life of me I cannot understand why you chose to debut on the forum in such a manner. If that is a foretaste of what we might expect from you in future I suspect your membership will be brief in duration.

I'm interested in a good cheap option, too. I have several good small "tactical" type lights for pocket, etc, and have a couple of big Cluson Clubman lamps available - courtesy of work. But a good quality middle-ground option would be a really useful addition.

I don't do enough lamping to warrant big expenditure (do too much tregging around the countryside at night for work - it loses its appeal as a pastime!!).

Anyone in the UK used DX.. I want to get the TM26 torch £199 at DX. Which is £100 cheaper than most uk suppliers

Just wondering if after import duties etc it's worth it?

Should still save about £40-£50, IF customs pick it up - so either way, that's worth it for me! Not forgetting a lot of Ebay sellers get their 'stock' via DX ;)
