high mag scope needed

Postby Beer Hunter » Sun Sep 21, 2008 9:41 am

Guys,

I'm currently using a 6-24x40 Bushnell 4200 on my .204 and while its a great scope, its missing the magnification for 400 yard bunny shots.
I'm struggling to find a suitable replacement - my requirements are 30X mag and 1/8th MOA clicks with good quality glass. It should also have turrets that lend themselves to dialing in.
The budget is about £600-£800 and I'm not interested in the bottom end of the market.

I was waiting for the "MTC Prestige", but these seem some way off. Can anyone suggest something suitable?

Kev.

My MTC Viper does the trick Kev. 8 - 32 X 60.

Why waste money on more for a rabbit gun :?

Because I want to :D
I just appreciate top quality glass. While the Viper is about as good as it gets for the price, you do notice it's shortcomings at dusk. Remember the "scope off" we had at Denmill?

Kev.

The Nightforce Bench Rest series should do you OK, plenty of different reticles and you can probably live with the second focal plane.

I use a 8-32 x 56 model on a mid range F-class'er and it hase very clear optics and a variable illumination to boot. They are a bit 'chunky' though!

Bit steep in price here but about $1200 ish in the US, Bear Basin normally does the best deals http://www.bearbasin.com/catalog.htm#nightforce_scopes

That's a great suggestion Terry. I'm over in the US soon, so I'll have a look at them :)

Cheers,

On that same site there is a page of their top 10 selling long range sights:

It might be some use.

Kev,

The Nightforce rings are also very nice (while you're there and spending $$!!).

The only thing I'd say is the BR series have the paralax up on the objective bell where as the NSX's have it as a side 'knob', but the NSX's are 1/4 clicks and you'd like 1/8" (which I can appreciate!).

Born again - I saw the list but it's the 1/8 clicks that narrows the field a bit.

Cheers

I don't mind that - it means there is at least one less bit of glass between the eye and target. So brighter and clearer :)
The 1/8th clicks mean a lot more to me than side PA. For shooting at 400 yards, 1 click = 1" is just not fine enough.

I'd not looked at their rings and bases before - they look pretty good :)
Like their "Angle Degree Indicator" too - -I know, I'm a geek!

Kev,

No problems in 'geekdom', you should see the crap I take to tactical competitons - and I'm still looking for the better mousetrap ;) , but have found that the 'less is more' ideas help as I get older (less to remember and less to carry).

Nah, it's only 16X mag and 1/4 MOA clicks.

You have PM :)

I assume its a 30mm? I'll have to go order some mounts as the only 30mm ones I have are on the .243 and they are too low for a 50mm objective.
Still, not a problem - by the look of the market, whichever scope eventually goes on the .204 will be a 30mm anyway :)

Thanks,
Kev.
