simmons opticts any good?

Postby sniper2011 » Mon Nov 19, 2012 7:39 pm

Looking at a Simmons 8 point 1.5-5x32 for my new hw99s but know nothing about Simmons. Are they any good?

Cheers

Supposedly the Simmons scopes made in the Philippines are OK and good value for the money. I've got one of their 1.5-5x20 WTC scope which makes a great companion to a Ruger 10/22.
If it's made elsewhere (ie China most likely), you get exactly what you pay for: scopes are made to a price there.

Perhaps you could say what the scope is for?

I've got a Simmons on my FAC air rifle, it's a 4 - 12 X 50 and it does the trick nicely. Crap optics compared to my higher end fullbore hunting scopes but for an air rifle it's perfect..

For my Wierauch 99 looking for a scope for bunny shooting as been using this gun on its iron sights they are accurate and have had a few good shots using them but low mag would help with standing shots and a scope will take away the variable of lining the irons up before pulling the trigger.
most shots are standing at 20-40 yards.

I'd go for a higher mag than 1.5 - 5 Chris...

4X as a start would be better in my opinion 8-)

I'm also looking at a 4x32 and 6x40 milldot Richter optik scopes, I have higher end scopes on my target rifles but would like something simple and low mag on my new hunting rig

decent price,decent glass,really wide field of view = hawke Panorama AO EV 4-12x50/3-9x50 http://www.airgunbuyer.com/Showproducts ... t%20Optics
i have had all the above scopes and the panorama beats them easily

what surprised me was being able to clearly see/aim at the clays we were using as targets at 240 yards  ;)

i always had simmons scopes on my air rifles never had any problems but as said hawke are pretty good for the price, ive got a bushnell on my .243 and again does the job for very little money not as crisp clear as a zeiss etc but certainly does the job for me and under £200 cant fault it also still use a pair of simmons binos that are 10+ years old still doing there job
