Recommendation for my .17hmr set up?

Postby Judge Ali » Fri Jun 07, 2013 1:02 am

Time for me to upgrade next time I am home. What can you advise to go on my 452 American (16") with wildcat mod for lamping and general low light bunny bashing? Max is never more than 180 yards. Can do around £300-£400 for something decent.

Not in a great rush to get it but just wanted to get some info on what others are using which is working well or what people can recommend? All info appreciated.

Cheers
A

I've got a 3-9x Leupold M4 MR/T on mine at the mo., but wish it went to 12x. (I happened to have it lying around!)

I think much beyond x12 is redundant on a .17hmr - if you have time to set up and use more magnification than that, you could probably get closer!! ;)

You could maybe get a 2nd hand Leupold in the right mag. range for the budget you suggest - they are better scopes than many Euro-snobs give them credit for, and I'd take a 2nd hand Leupold over a new MTC any time.

I've got a Meostar R1 4-12 x 56 on my HMR and they suit each other very well. IIRC I paid about £450 for it second-hand about 4 years ago and I think I could sell it for the same money very easily tomorrow.
I'm trying to decide on a new scope for my .22/.17HM2 Finnfire at the moment. It's a toss up between a European 6x42 - 7x50 or something with night vision like the Yukon Photon.

snobbery is everywhere i favour hawkes on my rimfires/airguns and have a 30mm 4-16x50 sidewinder on my little mach2 that is perfect, yet all you hear is hawke is bad,the old ones may of been but the new ones are really good :)
to be fair i am guilty as charged,i slated leupold at first purley based on what i heard :thdn:

Their not very good in the dark NV is better :)

I have a few 8-32x56 As the sun sets they are still good. I shot a fox sat at 9.15 through one. Turret tracking is not great on them.
