Reticule magnification and trajectory

Postby manxteddy » Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:50 pm

My .22 CZ American is fitted with a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x42 scope with a ladder reticule.
According to the blurb each space on the ladder represents at 9 power , 3" or 3 minutes at 100 yards. Fine I follow that.
Now if the scope is set to 3 power will the ladder spacings represent 1" or One minute of angle ?
I know it sounds obvious but optics can do strange things!

Graham,

If the optics power settings are accurate, it should be 9" @ 3x

Grahem,

Put some cut lengths of wood up at 100 yards, say 3" & 12" long and confirm the ladder against the magnification. A lot of scope's mag settings are not true values.

Thanks for the advice.There you go 3x = 9".
Senility is obviously setting in.
Yes the practical test is also very good but I will have to wait till I get to my shoot.

Usually 3-9 will be nominal and equal 3.3 to 8.5 or so (give or take)
