Scope for 22-250

Postby Ray7756 » Mon Mar 24, 2014 11:22 pm

Ok i have just ordered a Sako 22-250 laminated stock with stainless varmint fluted barrel    aririving this week
Now i need to get a scope to put on it, question is what magnification will i require , i will be using this for foxes and realisticaly looking at ranges between 100 -200 mt but would like the option of taking charlie down at longer ranges so a variabl mag would be in order ,when and if my skill set improves, looking at zeiss and wondering if there is an advantage to illuminated scope given the price difference
Cheers

On my 22-250 Remington 700 vssf2 sits.

Zeiss Duralyt 3-12 x 50 simply a stunning scope and under £600 exceptional in low light or with a lamp.

Use quality bases, rings (Warne) and you'll be on the money

If you are after Charlie then dusk performance will be key.

I would definitely lean on some nice German glass, with mineral elements and good transmission, so a Zeiss with a wide objective is a good option.

That said, a fixed mag Schmidt & Bender 8x56 is always a safe bet, the low light performance is as good as it gets. You can pick them up for £300-£400 on ebay.

I use one on my .223 in high seats to good effect, great at dusk and under the moon

I thought I was spending a lot of money when I bought the Zeiss, but after using it for some time I now know it was money well spent.

The clarity is just amazing and I only use good glass, it hammers both the Leupold and the Hawke into the ground, the 3-12 x50 is perfect for most UK hunting situations.

I am now waiting for some pennies and will get the big 5-20 x 72 Victory it turns night into day almost, will make my Remy 700 VSSF 2 22-250 a fantastic fox basher
