Cleaning Scope Exteriors..

Postby Tommo » Tue Nov 18, 2008 3:35 pm

I have just received two scopes as a freebie for our club use. One is a Hawk the other of unknown make but reckon it's Chinese. The scopes are ok except for a sticky residue where the mounts have been. Scopes are matt/satin finish.

Any suggestions as to what I can clean this gunge off with??

If they have had a stick on pad of some sort applied to fix them or raise them in the mounts then white spirit should disolve the glue residue.

Would lighter fluid do the job? Got plenty of that... ;)

Not neccessarily Tom. the lighter fluid may well eveporate orr before it disolves the residue.

With white spirit on a piece of kitchen roll the residue can be wiped over to deposit the spirit and then rubbed to dislodge it from the surface of the scope.

Lighter fluid doesn't always do the disolving bit.
