Redfield Revolution 3 - 9 x 40 scope

Postby Blackthorn » Sat Mar 14, 2015 11:52 am

Has anyone used a Redfield Revolution scope? I'm looking to replace the 3-9x40 scope on my Marlin .357, which is used for shooting at ranges up to 50m, most gallery rifle and practical shooting.

I'd like a good quality, reliable scope without paying a fortune if possible. The current scope was a cheap one and will no longer hold zero but I'm happy with the size and mag range.

There's a few decent scopes for £200 - £250 but I quite like the look of the ACCU-Range Reticle on the Revolution.

(Link to one I'm looking at: http://www.uttings.co.uk/p106528-redfie ... QQRR-H3Ri1 )

Anyone have any experience with them? There's plenty of US reviews but they're often a bit one sided.

If memory serves correctly, the Redfield Accurange 3-9 or very similar was the scope of choice for the USMC snipers which included Carlos Hathcock amongst their number. He seemed to do OK with it. I think they had a few issues at the time, but I guess most have been sorted long since.
For the avoidance of doubt, there is no such thing as "American English". There is the English language and there are mistakes.

If the objective is fixed then at gallery rifle ranges you risk parallax error which will destroy accuracy.
If you don't have to give up your car because other people commit crimes in their cars, why should I have to give up my firearms because other people commit crimes with their firearms?

I gather Leopold own Redfield and the Revolution is either the same or very similar to the VX-1, but as I've not used one of those it doesn't help me.

My current scope isn't parallax adjustable, although it may have been parallaxed at 50m or 25m as it's easy to manually adjust, and I got on quite happily with it until it stopped holding zero (I just got used to aiming a little higher or lower as we changed distance).

What sort of scope would people recommend on a .357 that does have an adjustable parallax? It'll mostly be used for shooting light loads but possibly the occasional full magnum load for foxes. It only needs to be a 3 - 9.

For an old springer air rifle that I have. It's really good for the money too, especially with the binos, which aren't bad either!

Bargain that

I have several rifles with scopes on them.

starting with Hawke, they make a good scope if not looking to spend a fortune I have never broken one and it seems to hold zero well.

Then I guess the next up the price range is a Leupold 4-12 x 40 AO milldot, a well constructed scope that has proved very reliabe and won several competitions with it. As I have just bought a new Steyr air rifle the scope now sits on top of it, the replacement is an AR tactical Leupold 6-18 AO which will go on the 22lr

Moving up to the serious contenders comes the Zeiss, build quality as you would expect and the glass is superb German engineering, this scope works well into the dark.

My top of the range is the 5-25 x 56 pm11 p3 ffp this is as good as it gets simply stunning with build quality to match.

With the quality glass that I have the Hawke is good value for money and wont let you down, the Side winder tac 30 holds its own on the range
