I've no experience of the Vortex.

I have a Leupold 8 to 25 x 50 LR and find that the head position is a bit fussy.

I have a Sightron 10 to 50 x 60 with a fine cross hair and 1/8" dot which I like a lot.

For the money the Sightron is good value, it's light in weight if you want to do F/TR and there's good back up from John Dean the man who runs Aim Field Sports.

There's an article on scopes here in Target Shooter with mention of all three scopes:

http://www.targetshooter.co.uk/?p=1398

Sightron get a mention in this piece as well from the same web mag:

I've no experience of the Vortex either, but I have a Leupold VXIII and a Sightron SIII 8-32, the optics in the Sightron are similar to the VXIII, very good to my eye, and the price is a lot lower.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Sightron for long range target shooting, image is great, reticle is nice and fine (MoA2), and offers good indications for holding off for wind, I'd definitely buy it again.

The vortex looks good in online reviews and is cheaper still, I'd be very tempted to give one a go at the price if I needed another scope of that type.

I have a Sightron 8x32x50.. impressive scope all round. Excellent clear picture, solid build, good choice of reticules too. As Keef said, John Dean is a good bloke to deal with. You wont be disappointed with Sightron SIII.

NOTE: you'll still see bugger all if the mist is down on the mountain... ;)

I have two SIII Sightron scopes, both 8-32x56 one with the MBA reticle and one with the target dot and fine cross hairs. They are excellent scopes and very good value for money.

I have got the LRTD on my .308 for long range target shooting.

I've never tried a Vortex but I'm plead with my Sightron S111 8-32 x 56. I have it on my Savage 6.5 x 284.

The 100yd pic is near minimum mag. The 1000yd shot is about 2/3rds, maybe 20x. Setting the mag back a bit I can often see the wind flags and the target at the same time, also sometimes I find it better to see the mirage drift as a bigger picture.

This is another shot at higher mag, maybe 20x from the 100yd benches at Bisley.

This is the one - I bought it direct from these people. No trouble at all, tracked all the way, I think it came to £690 including Vat and duty.
