Scope for HMR

Don't buy cheap glass!

Whilst Leupolds aren't the best glass available, they do have the advantage of being popular, so you can get a used one fairly cheaply, confident in the warranty.

I have a pair of VXIII LR/T with Varmint reticles and 30mm tubes. The last one bought on here for £300, that's a good scope for the money and should last me many years.

What is their PX range and click adjustment (1/4 or 1/8th)?

I have re-parallaxed mine to air rifle ranges. Yes, I know it's overkill but I enjoy my hunting trips and good glass adds to my enjoyment, as well as making squirrels easier to spot in the leaf cover.

Frankly, the VX-IIIs piss over my Bushnell Elite and Falcon T scopes, and at used prices they aren't much dearer.

The specs don't give the PX range. However, I see they are 1/4 MOA clicks, so not much use to me for the intended purpose.
It's strange you say they are much better then your Bushnells. The ones I've looked through were certainly good - great sharpness, but I found the colours and contrast lacking.
Which Bushnells do you have?

I guess if you can shoot 1/8th MOA you need a scope that can do it ;) Don't forget that I'm talking from an air rifle point of view, the scopes work nicely for me, very sharp and clear and better than the Bushnell Elite 3200 and Falcon T 10-40x56. The 4200 might be as good, but for £300 used with a lifetime warranty I reckon the VXIII is a good buy.

I'd agree they are better then the 3200's. The 4200's are very different animals.

How does a 30mm VX-III 50mm LRT compare with a 4200 ? Performance and price wise. I like good glass, especially at bargain used prices.

Depends which 4200 you compare it with. If you look at the side PA models, then there is not much to choose between them. The front PA models are brighter, sharper with better contrast and colour to my eyes.
30mm bodies are really marketing hype - the way the lenses work, you don't actually get any more light through - just more windage and elevation control.

Price wise - have a look at http://www.bearbasin.com

I have a Simmons MAG44 6.5-20x44 Duplex Ret on mine and it does the job.

I have it set at either 10x for NV and 12x for daytime and 100 yards.

This seems to cover most bases and allows me to concentrate on taking the shoots rather than fiddling with the scope.

Cheers + ATVB

A 150 yard zero is a bit of a waste of the HMR - you are constantly aiming off. A 100 yard zero gives a much greater point blank range. i.e. (click to enlarge) :

With twenty grands worth of other scopes, you decide to fit a Nikko Sterling???!!!

Kev

total waste to time i zero my .243 at 150 hmr at 100 and my 22 at 60 so would agree with beer hunter
