If not then I wouldn't bother. ;)

Hi Graham, yes it is a .223, a Custom.223 Ackley Improved to be precise, designed for this bullet ;) yes it is a 1/7 twist, and it already shoots .2's @100 yards and 0.25MOA @200 yards.

Cheers fella ;)

Good to hear that someone actually has things in stock and doesn't just wait until someone orders them so that they can then try and get some in for them.

just sold 200 to my RFD mate. its a 1-8twist spec on them and they can be fiddly to stabilise at sea level,

try dauntsey guns website pal and see if they still have them in stock

atvbr

1:8 twist is too slow to stabilize the 80 grain Amax.

A 1:8 is "OK" for the 75' Amax's although most people with a 1:8 twist gets them to work

Yeh your right, manufactures do state 1:8. ;)

However Brian Litz from Berger bullets carried out extensive testing on the 75/80Amax and said that the 75 Amax was MARGINALLY STABLE with a 1:8 twist. The 80's are right on the limit of MARGINALLY STABLE too UNSTABLE, hence why most people with 1:8's dont get good results with the more superior longer 80 amax.

A better mores suited 1:7 twist puts both the 75's and 80's in the Comfortably stable zone.

FYI and a good reference site - http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/

well not that i need worry about the 80gr amax any more lol, 168GR amax for me now lol..

i emailed hornady ages about the 80Gr twist rate as Mr litz programme software on the ballistic AE app stated it was on the edge, now i know the americans are having great results in the high altitudes with it but for us mere mortals in the UK who have high humidity and low altitudes to contend with it would be interesting to see if it would be possible to push it fast enough to stabilise.

its a pity they are so blooming long as the BC is brilliant for a .223

Yeh the BC on the 80 grain Amax is actually underestimated by the Hornady, it is higher. Its a superb long range bullet, infarct it has a higher BC the your 168 grain amax ;) A higher BC with higher velocities = better long range performer. The only advantage the 308 has is it has more kinetic impact energy. Thats about it tbh ;)

0.475 is the BC for the 168GR so i would be very much interested in seeing the 80GR pip that,

the 168r gets into hot territories around the 2700-2800 fps with 43-47gr depending on powder components.

the 80r is 2600-2700 with vagrant at 23-24gr hows the .223 faster ? i know you run the Ackley Improved.

my 168GR is my preferred hunting round, but I'm just getting ready to start the 208GR Amax for long-range work :)
