v max or NTX

Sun Nov 25, 2012 1:17 pm

Hi
Can anyone tell me the difference between V max and NTX. I shoot a .22 hornet with 35gr V max, but have just seen that Hornady do a 35gr NTX with a better BC. I've always thought that the 35gr V max just looks the wrong shape. I know the NTX are lead free is this a good or bad thing?
Are the NTX any good ? anyone using them?

Ta

PS the .20 24gr looks like it might be fun in a .204 ruger

i can`t see why you would want to shoot the NTX variant when there is no need at the moment in this country.
all the v-max stuff that i have shot is more than capable of outperforming my shooting abilities at the ranges i shoot out to
also,i don`t know for sure, but the NTX stuff will probably be more expensive

Much better BC is why I would shoot it in the UK, but saying that your right, V max bullets out perform my shooting :) I would like to give them a go though.

Get some 40 V-Max's through the Hornet. With a BC of .0.210 and a MV of over 3000 ftps. Work very very well in the Hornet.

Do you have to mod the mag to get them to feed?

I believe you do, although Hornady also do a 45 grain soft point with a BC of .2, again easily gets over 3000fps and fits the magazine.
If you like playing shorten a few hornet cases so a properly seated bullet of your choice will feed, than work a load up, see where you get.

I shortened a few so a 40 Grain Nosler BT would feed and using H110 still got over 3000fps, and they fed well from the mag, in the end I stopped
playing as the little 35 grainers work ok out to sensible Hornet range with no problem, crap BC or not.

Neil. :)
